| Hey, welcome to my website. I use this place to display pieces that I have written both professionally and personally. Although, it is mostly for fun, I hope it will give you a solid understanding of my capabilites as a writer. Depending on the direction of the wind and my frame of mind, I write fiction, travel articles, and technical documentation.
From a creative writing standpoint, I believe that a writer must write what they know, feel, and observe. Infidelity is a concept that I have been curious about for some time now. Why does it happen to people who are supposedly happily married? And is it truly a part of human nature to be monogamous? In my struggle to understand this issue, I have begun writing a story about a guy who also struggles to understand it. Whether I will find the answer to these questions during the experience of writing it, who knows. It is a work in progress that changes everytime I do the tiniest bit of research on the subject. Initially, I thought nothing could be more relaxing than writing my novel on a Caribbean island with a drink in my hand. Unfortunately, or fortunately, however you think of it, I was too distracted with the local culture of each island and the sight of the turquoise water to get much down on paper. So I've begun to consider travel writing. I've now written travelogues for Barbados and the Turks and Caicos islands in hopes of giving you an idea of what its like to visit these beautiful places. Over Thanksgiving of 2003, we drove around the tip of Southwestern Florida and thought it was as close to the waters of the Carribean as we could ever see in the US. It was great! Unfortunately, we didn't take any pictures though... Too busy studying the land. As for what I have been actually PAID to write, it is for technical writing. Like most of the technical writers I know, the road to this career was traveled sans map. I began mine shortly after college while I was an intern at a local ad agency. With the realization that I didn't want to be a copywriter and the sudden surge of high-tech business in Austin, I changed gears and got into technical writing. Ten years later, I'm still going strong. It continues to support all of my other writing endeavors and I have come to enjoy it just as much.
